Backpacks

The backpack story began in October with my asking Mary Ommen, the woman on the right side of the group picture, to help me get back into sewing. We are neighbors in a condo building in Fargo, ND. She showed me a cloth backpack she had made for her grand daughter & expressed an interest in making more for a service project. I suggested we connect with AIAIA.

I had been blessed to travel with the team in 2018 & knew there were children who could use backpacks for school & other activities. That led to an email to Father Jim & Pat Murphy to give us the go ahead to start sewing.

Soon we were preparing to make 75 of them. The final step in finishing the backpacks was running white cording around the top & sides. Mary’s grand daughter & her friends needed a service project at their middle school at Shanley Catholic School. After two afternoons of service the girls completed the cording. The project is now complete and ready to be sent with the 2020 team to children in Africa. 😊
