The Arm in Arm in Africa story is reaching new viewers around the word thanks to a Minneapolis-based broadcast team. Tempo Afric TV—which has regional exposure in four African countries, Europe and throughout the U.S. interviewed President Jim Cassidy and Board Member Darryl Savage about our organization’s evolution. This is now posted worldwide on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter (as of Thursday, May 5th). Jim and Darryl shared some stories about our growth from the HIV/AIDS pandemic through our current COVID pandemic…talked about many of our prideful successes and growing partnerships…and even gave a brief preview about our upcoming fundraiser—our first face-to-face Arm-in-Arm event in nearly three years.

Tempo Afric TV has a regional presence on the African continent in the Ivory Coast, Senegal, Togo and Benin…in France, England and Greece…and in six states in the U.S.

As you’ll see, this half-hour conversation was done virtually and gave our non-profit a chance to share our unique two-plus decade impact in South Africa with people who may not have heard it before. Tempo Afric TV has more than 100,000 social media subscribers and a world-wide audience much larger than that.

Our first delegation scrambled to provide about 15 of these stacks—or parcels—of food for needy residents…now our number is nearly 2,000 parcels each year!

This township we support used to be named Itipini for a reason—that translates to “The tip of the dump”.

In the townships, mounds of recycling of glass bottles that have not been picked up for years.

The reality of life in the townships. Sometimes when cars break down they can’t be repaired and are pillaged for scrap materials.

This internment ceremony is a reminder that during the our delegation’s first visit in 2000 the lines of people waiting to bury those who died from HIV/AIDS encircled the cemeteries and stretched for blocks.

These parcels of food are the end result of our Food Distribution program.

A local resident speaks with Wilhelm Verwoerd—the many who grandfather is considered the primary creator of Apartheid. Wilhelm has spent much of his adult life trying to reverse the multi-generational damage done by his grandfather.

With no indoor plumbing, township residents must sit on exposed, shared, outdoor toilets on the street as others pass by.

Many residents—like this boy—use stepping stones every day to get across rivers of flowing raw sewage.

Thanks to Arm in Arm in Africa’s education partnerships, many students are going to school for the first time in their lives.

Our delegation members have the opportunity to give hand and foot massages to residents who rarely receive this sort of touch and care from others.

At the site of Missionary Sisters of Charity—a location outside of Cape Town personally chosen by Saint Mother Teresa herself—this nun cares for a resident who had fallen earlier in the day.

This is Hendrik Verwoerd (considered the “architect” of Apartheid) holding his grandson Wilhelm. Wilhelm is a partner of AIAIAs who works tirelessly to try to correct the injustices his grandfather created.
