Our Senior Home Visit
We were fortunate to spend much of the morning with our friends at the Senior Center in the township of Guguletu. It was a gift to renew old friendships and to serve a meal to the young at heart senior citizens. In a community that experienced firsthand the savage intent of apartheid, it was so evident that the light of liberation and human courage continues to burn bright. I pray that their determination to never give up, nor surrender to racism will inspire all of us to do the hard work of justice.
I honor their sacrifice and courage in the words of L.R. Knost; “Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things break, and all things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally. The broken world waits in darkness for light that is you.”
In gratitude for your good thoughts and prayers….
James Cassidy, President AIAIA
Many were moved to tears when Jim recounted the use of the Dompas during apartheid. All Blacks were required to carry the ‘passport’ document to leave their home area as part of the ‘pass laws’ to enforce segregation.
