What Really Matters In Life
We have entered the “Sunset” phase of our South African journey. We will be arriving home this coming Sunday, March 5. The delegation members are taking a few days to rest and prepare for our reunion with friends and family in Minnesota. From feet washing and hand massage to sharing ashes with one another on Ash Wednesday, we have been reminded of the power of love in a myriad of human encounters.
I happen to be sitting on the bank of a river this morning as I compose my thoughts and reflect on what it means to be returning to my other family in Minnesota. It has been an honor and a privilege over the past twenty-three years of leading delegations and growing the AIAIA family. A common mantra amongst those who have participated in the delegations is how “life changing“ the experience has been, specifically as to how one views their life. In a phrase, “you have the opportunity to hit the reset button and learn what really matters.”
I have a full heart of gratitude this morning. AIAIA has been very intentional in visiting and assessing our many partnerships in both urban and rural South Africa. I want to thank our donors, our SA partners, and my colleagues who serve on the Board of AIAIA. The 2023 delegation experience has provided a clear and compelling answer as to “what really matters in life.” We are indeed , better together.
I trust and strongly believe that together we will commit to being passionate and concerned as to all that pertains to human dignity and the common good of all people, ALL PEOPLE.
In honor of the 2023 delegation and all those that have stepped up over the years to make this life changing experience, I share these words from Frederick Buechner;
“Here is your life. You might never have been, but you are, because the party wouldn’t have been complete without you. Here is the world, beautiful and terrible things will happen. Don’t be afraid. I am with you. Nothing can separate us. It’s for you I created the universe. I love you. There’s only one catch. Like any other gift, the gift of grace can be yours only if you will reach out and take it.”
Thank you for reaching out…
