Expanding Those Served thru AIAIA Food Distribution

As we approach the Thanksgiving season, we’d like to share this update about our Food program. Spiwo Xapile and Olga Xapile, our ‘ambassadors’ on the ground in Cape Town and Malungeni, have made a concerted effort in the past year to expand the 'leadership' of our Food program, as well as the distribution points and the number of families served. Here's a look at our 4th quarter distribution that will be occurring over the next few weeks.

Total food distribution -- 2,450 parcels per quarter

Cape Town:
8 locations -- total of 845 parcels/recipients

  • JL Zwane Church members (464 recipients)

  • NCross Roads Nyanga (52 recipients)

  • KTC Informal Settlement area (Gugulethu/Nyanga) (52 recipients)

  • New Rest/Kanana Informal Settlement area (Gugulethu) (28 recipients)

  • CPOA (Gugulethu) (28 recipients)

  • JL Zwane Centre neighborhood (Langa, Delft, Khayelitsha) (152 recipients)

  • Philippi/Samora Machel area (41 recipients)

  • Khikhi Informal Settlement area (Gugulethu) (28 recipients)

Malungeni:
6 locations -- total of 1,604 parcels/recipients

  • Umzantsi (300 recipients)

  • Umntla (308 recipients)

  • Ncambedlana (176 recipients)

  • Luncwasa (176 recipients)

  • Mbange (320 recipients)

  • Itipini  -- incl. food vouchers for Itipii children at Touching Acts (324 recipients)

Each of these 14 distributions has a lead organizer who confers with residents of their service area to help determine those most in need. In addition, Spiwo meets with the leaders as a group periodically to assess needs and share with one another when one area is in greater need of parcels than another. This can prove to be a challenging role for these folks as they can't possibly fulfil every request. We’d like to recognize them here by just listing their names and offering them a big THANK YOU on behalf of AIAIA. You are each a valued member of the AIAIA team, and we could not fulfill our mission without your help! Enkosi!!
