Gugulethu Walk Through

The reality set in today during the third day of our delegation’s visit to South Africa. It was our first walk through one of Gugulethu’s most impoverished areas…

Metal corrugated homes…dangerously-dangling power lines…flies and stagnant water everywhere. This felt familiar for some of us. It was staggering to our first-timers. These scenes will fill our next few days.

So many curious children not old enough to understand how different their would is from some of Cape Town’s richest residents just a few kilometers away. Yet, they enthusiastically welcome our arrival. This will be our committed home for the next week and a half. It begins with this welcome. The delivery of food, health care and educational supplies are coming soon. This is why we journey across the ocean to see them again.
